The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) Partnership
There is a great need for minority biomedical scientists to conduct cancer research and to better address the health disparities issues in this Nation. The UDC and the LCCC have been funded to jointly conduct education, research and outreach since 2000. The NIH/NCI/ P20 grant initiated the partnership between UDC and LCCC. The UDC/LCCC Partnership applied to the NCI for new funding during the last year of the P20 Cancer Grant (2000-2003). It was awarded a five-year U56 grant that provides some funding for a full-time Masters program in Cancer Biology, Prevention and Control that was established in 2004 at UDC. A subsequent funding for this program has been received via an R25 Bridges to the Doctorate grant from the NIH.
